Elaeagnus eb. Compacta trough hedging, has an attractive and unusual silver grey foliage that makes a perfect natural screen in your garden or landscaping project. It is a very resilient plant which is able to tolerate exposed situation including coastal areas and is happy in a medium quality soil, but you get the best foliage colour on light sandy soils. This makes them great for hedges and shelter belts especially in drier areas.
Regular trimming is needed to ensure that this hedge does not get to out of control and to maintain the density of it. It produces little white flowers in the autumn on the stems which are hidden within the foliage and which have a strong sweet fragrance.
While it is normal to see the green and yellow variegated form grown in gardens this form of Elaeagnus stays true to its type keeping this lovely foliage colour and makes a different and still impressive evergreen hedge.
